When you have a pet, it’s natural to want to give them treats. After all, this is a great way to show them love and praise them when they’re well behaved. However, buying treats can be expensive. Fortunately, if you’re a bird owner, there are plenty of things you can give your pet that won’t break the bank.

Beans
Fiber is great for both humans and birds. So, if you want to ensure that your pet’s digestive system is fully-functioning, it’s worth giving them a homemade treat that’s high in this stuff. Beans are excellent for this, provided that you cook them first. Otherwise, you risk poisoning your pet which is probably not what you want. A spoonful or two of these will give them a great source of fiber and protein while also giving them something tasty to snack on.
Pasta
A homemade treat that you don’t necessarily have to cook before serving it to your bird is pasta. The thought of eating dry pasta might not seem that appealing to you, but these animals can handle it a lot better than humans. Of course, there’s nothing stopping you from softening it up and serving it instead. Maybe try it both ways and see if your pet shows a preference for one over the other?

Fruit
If you enjoy a healthy lifestyle, then the chances are that fruit will regularly feature on your grocery list. That’s good for your bird because so much of this stuff is suitable for your bird’s diet. If you find that some fruit doesn’t get eaten during the week or are willing to share part of your daily intake, this stuff makes for excellent homemade bird treats. The animal won’t necessarily love everything you offer, but with a bit of trial and error, you’re bound to find at least one fruit they enjoy.
Vegetables
Fruit and vegetables often go together, so it makes sense that the latter also make for great homemade bird treats. The likes of carrots, broccoli, kale, peas, and more are all excellent choices to feed your feathered friend. Just make sure you wash whatever you serve them thoroughly, and they should be grateful for the snack.

Popcorn
Chilling out with a tub of popcorn and a movie is a great way to relax after a long day. As it turns out, you can include your bird in the fun because popcorn is another suitable homemade treat for them. It doesn’t make much of a difference whether you serve it to them popped or unpopped. However, if you opt for the latter, it’s probably worth boiling it for a short while, so it’s not too tough. Moreover, avoid giving them popcorn that you put in the microwave because the salt and fat levels in this stuff could be bad for their health.
Evidently, a lot of snacks that work for your bird are things that may well already be on your grocery list. You can easily feed your pet homemade treats without having to spend anything extra at the store.
